Project Specifics

What is "To Kids From Kids?"
To Kids From Kids is a multiple-county holiday service project sponsored by Girl Scouts and was founded in 1985.

Who benefits from this project?
Children, newborn to 18 years old, who are in the social services system, usually because of neglect, physical and/or emotional abuse.

How do these children benefit?
This project ensures that these children receive a gift or gifts during the winter holiday season. Because the gifts are new and have value, the children can feel they are important. Our guidelines are designed to be respectful of the children and their families.

Where do the gifts go?
Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors (including Juliettes) and community youth groups work together to match an appropriate gift for the child's age and gender. The order is packaged (unwrapped) for pick up and distribution by the social workers or volunteers doing similar work.

What kind of gifts are appropriate?
Given the circumstances of these children and that the To Kids From Kids gift may be the only one they receive, it is important that gifts be:

  • New (unused)
  • High quality
  • Creative
  • Educational
  • Non-violent theme
  • Unwrapped
  • Completely ready for use (for instance, include any needed batteries)
